Bear Round Up is
an annual event held in Dallas, Texas for bears and bear admirers. It
is open to all who consider themselves bears or bear admirers regardless
of body shape, size, and type and/or amount of body hair. The idea is
for bears and bear admirers of all types to get together in a safe and
fun atmosphere to have a good time, develop continuing friendships, make
new friends and to "have a good time" (you figure it out...)
The purpose
of the event is twofold. It is first and foremost a weekend of fun
and frolic intended to provide you with as many opportunities to
meet and mingle with other bears and bear admirers as possible. It is
secondarily a fundraising event. But what a fundraising event it
has been! Over the last 7 years of TBRU's, over $65,000 has been
donated to various local charities including: Walt Whitman Community School
(the country's only private high school for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered
and questioning (GLBTQ) youth located right here in Dallas, Resource Center
Dallas and Youth First Texas (a support services group for GLBTQ youth
in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex).
This year the beneficiary is another worthy cause: AIDS Services of Dallas.
It is amazing that such a fun-filled weekend benefits the GLBTQ community
as much as it does. It is only through the generous donations of sponsors,
the tireless (and totally volunteer) effort put forth by the TBRU committee,
the volunteer efforts of active and committed Dallas Bears members, and
of course, your attendance and participation in the weekend's festivities
that we are able to help Our Community.
