The ship we’ve chosen for our fifth annual cruise is terrific: the five-star luxury liner the MS Oosterdam. We’ll enjoy the food prepared by the Oosterdam’s chefs who are members of the prestigious Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs gourmet society. Yes, your mouth will water at the aroma of the chef’s delicious creations. But your other senses will delight as well with signature touches like Rosenthal china, starched linens and handsome white-jacketed servers to enhance your dining experience.
We’ll begin our cruise with a two-night pre cruise stay in gay friendly San Diego. The pre cruise stay is included in the package price of the cruise.
Arrive in San Diego on December 8th 2005 and check in to the Park Manner Suites Hotel located in Hillcrest the gay area of San Diego. We’ll gather this evening for a get acquainted cocktail party with special hors d'oeuvres and a cocktail from PJ's new cookbook.
On Friday morning enjoy a continental breakfast and then spend the day exploring San Diego. Friday evening enjoy the no hosted rooftop party at the Park Manor—a tradition in the gay community of San Diego. Have dinner in the hotel or one of the many restaurants in the Hillcrest neighborhood.
On Saturday December 10th we’ll depart from San Diego for a seven-day cruise to the Mexican Riviera aboard Holland America’s ship the MS Oosterdam.
Smell the fresh salty air and fresh brewed coffee at breakfast on deck. Read at the rail as the blue water of the pacific slips by. Toast to new friendships in the piano bar. Meet new friends for good conversation in the Windstar coffee bar which features Torrefazione Italia coffee. Dine on Bulgari china in the Pinnacle Grill. The Elegant Bulgari china plates further enhance the artistry of the cuisine, as each one features a unique blue and gold rim with subtle replicas of fruit embossed in a circular pattern in the middle of the plate. With each plate valued at nearly $300, great care is taken to ensure the beauty of these pieces
For guests looking to take a truly spectacular memento of their cruise home with them the famed Bulgari china is available for on-board purchase.
The Pinnacle Grill specializes in Pacific Northwest cuisine. Sterling Silver Beef is prepared on a 1600-degree grill to insure that juices are properly sealed. Select from Filet Mignon, Rib Eye or T-Bone steaks, Sesame Crusted Halibut or Roasted Salmon, or try one of the signature dishes, including Peking Duck Breast and Northwest Rack of Lamb. All entrees are served with a choice of side dishes to complete dinner. Wines from distinguished Northwest vineyards include Chateau St. Michelle, Willamette Valley Vineyards, and Tualatin Estates.
The restaurant is optional dining and has a service charge of $20 per guest, a bargain for the generous portions. The group will have one complementary dining experience included in the price of the cruise.
There are many other dining options for your enjoyment such as the elegant Vista main dining room. The Vista Dining room has a colorful ceiling of stylized golden flowers adorning the stairway area of the two-level space. The Vista, which occupies the aft section of Lower Promenade deck 2 and Promenade deck 3, affords panoramic views of the sea from its stern location. We’ll have private tables for our group members.
Two other main restaurant areas of Oosterdam deserve attention because of their visual charm and excellent dining experiences. On Lido Deck 9, the Lido Buffet, situated in the aft section of the ship between the Aft Pool on the stern and the main Lido Pool in midship, is a grand surprise on Oosterdam. Here is a Lido where, unlike other ships where the issue is strictly self-serve dining and moving on you can actually enjoy lingering. A favorite area is the Lido Restaurant section in the forward part of the space. This seating area is also operated as an alternative casual restaurant at night with waiter service. A giant, modern, bright salad mural brightens this area.
And if this isn’t enough you can enjoy Oosterdam’s complementary 24-hour room service!
