News - BEAR CAFE (NYC): Tattoos, 'Straight' Guys, + BEAR COUNTY FAIR!

3 BIG Furry Events Coming to The LGBT Center!
"TATTOOED BEAR CELEBRATION" (4/17), "GUY(S) NEXT DOOR: PAUL ROBERTS PHOTOGRAPHY RETROSPECTIVE" (5/1), 1st "BEAR COUNTY FAIR" (5/15).
(1) On Sunday, April 17th, 2005, BEAR CAFE (BC) presents "The Tattooed Bear": A Multi-Media Celebration of Inked Bears. From 3 – 6 pm, men can come and show off their tats in the 'light of day' where they can REALLY be appreciated! The event includes: Tattoo Photographs, an ongoing photo documentation project by Harry Hawk. A `Mr. Tattooed Bear' Contest. Winner receives his choice of a photography shoot with either Chris Baker of 'CB Bear Studios' [ http://www.cbbearstudios.com ] OR Michio Hoshikawa of ‘Foto by Michio’ [ http://www.fotobymichio.com ]. Tattoo Artists showing their work on live models, in photographs, and answering questions. Cool (faux) Tattoos for all participants. A CLOTHES CHECK [down to swimsuit-, boxers-, briefs-only] will be available. To Pre-register for Contest (participants) or Display your Artwork (tattoo artists): program@bearcafe.org
(2) On Sunday, May 1st, 2005, BEAR CAFE (BC) presents "The Guy(s) Next Door": Paul Roberts Photography Retrospective. This special four hour event is from 3 pm – 7 pm. For over 25 years, Roberts has utilized the black and white photography medium, capturing the relaxed strength of 'real' men who are naturally muscular, masculine, hairy and sensual. This is a major photography showing of over 60 Roberts works, and a Gala Reception in his honor. [ http://www.paulrobertsphotography.com ]
(3) On Sunday, May 15th, 2005, BEAR CAFE (BC) presents “BEAR COUNTY FAIR”. This event is a benefit for BEAR CAFE New York Inc., an arts, education, and social organization for Bears, Cubs, Big Men and their Admirers. The first of its kind in the Bear community, BEAR COUNTY FAIR will run for 6 hours, from 12 noon to 6 pm, and will be 4000 sq. ft. of live entertainment, BBQ and country foods, booths, activities, competitions, games of skill and dance exhibitions.
OPEN TO THE ENTIRE LGBT COMMUNITY & OUR STRAIGHT SUPPORTERS, the most traditional of American events gets a very hairy, Gay and wacky make-over! The event includes BBQ (and delicious side fixin's) by COWGIRL HALL OF FAME Restaurant. Country Foods and other Vendors. Dance Exhibition by Times Squares. Bear `Glory Hole',`(Cock) Ring Toss' and other Games of Skill. Buy Erotic Men's Art from past BEAR CAFÉ Exhibitors. Bootblack by boy robi (Mid-Atlantic Bootblack 2005). Get your Palm Read, and Photo taken with Leather/Bear/Imperial Court Titleholders (and the Bearded Lady!). Beer and non-alcoholic beverages available (including soda, water, lemonade, and coffee will be sold.
Honky-Tonk Entertainment by The Imperial Court/NY (ICNY), Max Christopher, Kendall, others. Show MC'd by Manny Diaz (Int'l Mr. Bear Cub 2005) and Trai La Trash (Empress XVIII of ICNY), and others.
Enter our Judged Home-made Cookie Competition. Enter our "Animal" Judging for "Best Bear/Cub/Puppy/Kitty of Show" with a "No Talent" Talent Competition". Contest MC'd by Jo Arnone (Leather Pride Night Benefit) and Mike Cotter (Mr. MetroBear 2004-2005). Judged by Sue Sena (President, SWiSH), and Robert Valin (Mr. Eagle NYC 2005), and others.
Participating groups (to date) include: The LGBT Center; Imperial Court of New York; MetroBears New York; SWiSH (Straight Women in Support of Homos); Times Squares (Dancers).
ALL THREE (3) EVENTS will be held at The LGBT Community Center,
208 West 13th Street (between 7th/8th Avenues), New York City. ALL EVENTS HAVE A $7 General Admission ($5 for BEAR CAFÉ members w/ card). BC events and membership are open to ALL Men and Women age 18 or older. [Beer sold to those 21 and over ONLY, at BCF event.]
