What do most people like?

With a Forum - there tends to be more of a sense of Community. Is this something that people are looking for?

With a Chat - there seems to be more of goal of "hooking up", is that what people are looking for?

I never used to be a part of Online groups but then I became part of a Linux Community Forum and discovered how cool they can be. At the same time, I have posted Profiles in places like bear411.com. Getting to know other's for just friendly visiting can be more difficult.

So what do other's think? Are Bears just more used to the Chatting thing versus the Forum thing?

whether forum or chat - i am more interested in becoming community

you make 2 very great and interesting points about chat vs forums

i hope the ultimate goal of the majority of the members of this site is to create a community

I think a community would be better- theres already too many places where people just want to hook-up, It'd be nice if people could form a community through both- theres no reason why the chat couldnt be a place to meet people, thats what I'd use it for

I dont know if this is possible - but perhaps an email, not included in the one that you get confirming registration - 'cause most people skim through that, and often just read the part that says confirm and delete it- but maybe have a personal message implanted in the mailbox of a new member, or an email sent a few days later. I dont know, something like that, perhaps

each member receives a private message upon registration to the site...there is a newsletter feature on this site - but no one seems to be interested in creating or working on the newsletter (that would get mailed once a week or so) - so i just personally send emails out periodically to all the members when there is something new to the site...or some improvements and that gets people logged on - but if the newsletter would go out - with actual information people would be interested in - then i believe that would get more "action" to the site... Smile

check out the "Groups" link and if you want to join a group please do so - the newsletter group has a few members but so far not one correspondence on ideas...the newsgroup members get a private forum they can share ideas and ultimately come up with a newsletter for the week - but no one has started....

Smile

Well I cant guarantee great results, but I'd be willing to give it a try- around classes and hw and such - which means it cant be guaranteed to be regular or often - though I'll probably put it before hw for a while - you know, 'cause I'm just that smart... and I am the ideal procrastinator, so this'll be a nice distraction

Yes - a really good newsletter would be great! We would start getting to know the writers of various articles, etc. I am wanting more substantial community. I am looking for strong friendships with quality people and a Lover as well!
